More than a few times incindents taking place inside the book have made me smile from ear to ear simply because as a book lover I could relate so much. It is a book about books and the love of people towards books and reading. In short, if this is the typical children's book that is to be gotten out there I damn well want to be a child! :-) However, after coincidentally talking to a colleague about this book I made up my mind about reading it, and I am glad to say I have not been disappointed. Most books that fall into this category usually do not come within my personal radar range. I bought the second book at the same time and now just got through it with exactly the same feeling.I have once been under the impression that Cornelia Funke's book 'Inkheart' is to be considered a children's book. I really wish there was an option to purchase this without the music or just to put i off, because it really ruined the experience for me.

I was anxious for every time the music would come as it was so annoying and so loud that I would always have to stop what I was doing to turn it down (trying to avoid annoying everyone around me). Negatives: The narrator sometimes had trouble holding a character but what most frustrated me is that I often listen to audiobooks out loud whilst cleaning etc. I liked the fact that he changed his voice per character and although he did not always manage, tried to keep them the same each time. I loved the story as much as the first time and the narrator did a decent job. Now listening to it was great, felt very nostalgic. Positives: I read this book as a child in german and fell in love with the story. Otherwise, this is a highly recommended story and performance.

Instead of the music enhancing the story as it very well could have done, it detracted. In fact, they were so loud that the constant need to adjust the volume became a distraction as well as a nuisance. I also wish the sound engineer had paid closer attention to the volume levels: without exception, the musical interludes were significantly louder than the spoken tracks.

I wish, though, that it hadn't been at the expense of all of the great quotes that begin each chapter in print. In some ways this was a nice, creative addition. One addition to the audiobook is music between chapters. I had high expectations for the audio version and these were met. I was thrilled to discover the audiobook - thank you Audible for finally expanding the choices for additional languages. I first read this story more than a decade ago and was immediately captivated, ultimately reading the entire trilogy.
